SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team swept Union on Sunday afternoon on the road.

The Bombers stormed out to win the first game of the doubleheader, 13-2, before winning the second game, 10-1. Both games ended after just five innings.

With the wins, IC picked up its 20th win of the season and is now 9-3 in the Liberty League.

Game 1 | IC 13, Union 2 (5 innings)

The Bombers got on the board quickly, scoring their first run in the top of the first inning. Vanessa Brown singled and advanced to second on the throw to put herself in scoring position. Brown was then driven in by Abby Shields, putting IC up 1-0.

In the top of the second, Ellie Murray was hit by a pitch to reach base before coming home on an Emily Bloom triple, giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead.

Ithaca added two more runs in the top of the third, starting with Brown being hit by a pitch and then stealing second. Brown then went on to score due to a centerfield error on a Shields hit. The second run of the inning was scored by Shields, who was driven in on an Alex Wright double.

The top of the fourth inning proved to be an offensively productive one for the Bombers, as they scored four runs.

The first run came off an Allie Colleran homerun, her second of the season. The Bombers then got three doubles in a row from Gabby Laccona, Brown and Shields, which brought in two more runs for IC. Wright followed that up with a single to left field, which brought in Shields for the final run of the inning, giving the Bombers an 8-0 advantage.

Union produced its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kim Puzo led off the inning with a single to center field. Devon Hennel, who was pinch running for Puzo, was then driven in by a Nikki Ditizio single.

The Bombers went on to score five runs in the top of the fifth inning to secure the five-inning ending.

Bloom drew a walk before stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Laccona then reached based on an error by third base and advanced to second, which allowed Bloom to head home.

Brown then reached base after being hit by a pitch. Laccona stole third and scored on a catcher error, which also allowed Brown go to third base. Brown scored on the next play in which Shields singled.

The final two runs for the Bombers scored on a Hannah Peters double, giving IC a 13-1 lead heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Union strung together several hits in the bottom of the fifth, but only pushed one run across. C Courtney Casey singled before stealing second. She then advanced to third on a Kendall Rogot single and scored following an error on a Puzo at-bat.

Game 2 | IC 10, Union 1 (5 innings)

Ithaca got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, scoring three quick runs.

Union answered back with a run of its own in the bottom of the first inning. Stuart Buxton led off with a single and was brought in by a Casey double.

For two innings, neither team scored any more runs, but IC broke that drought in the top of the fourth inning.

Murray led off with a single before advancing to third on a Hannah Kimmel hit. Both Murray and Kimmel scored on a Colleran double, giving IC a 5-1 lead with one out. Colleran scored the final run of the inning on a Brown single.

The Bombers forced three quick Union outs in the bottom of the fourth and went right back to work at the plate in the top of the fifth.
