Baseball Records 23 Runs on 31 Hits to Defeat Canton on Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team posted season-highs of 23 runs and 31 hits on Sunday afternoon in a 23-3 Empire 8 Conference victory over SUNY Canton at Freeman Field. With the win, Ithaca is now 16-12 on the season and 9-6 in the Empire 8, while Canton falls to 6-21 and 3-7.

The 23 runs scored are the most since IC plated 22 runs against Oneonta on March 30, 2016.

The Bombers wasted no time to put a run on the board against Canton as senior Domenic Boresta sent the first pitch of the game over the left-centerfield fence for a lead-off home run. The round-tripper sparked a seven-run inning on six hits, including four that went for extra bases.

After a walk to junior Webb Little, fellow junior Andrew Bailey laced a double down the right field line to put both runners in scoring position. Both of them would come home on the next at bat as junior Sam Little singled through the right side to give IC a 3-0 lead.

Junior Adam Gallagher then stepped to the plate and ripped a double to right, which once again placed runners on second and third, to set up a two-run double to right-center by junior Cam Fuoti.

The Bombers batted around in the frame to bring Boresta back to the dish. He then doubled to left-center to stake IC to a 7-0 advantage. Fuoti and sophomore Chris Dietz scored.

Ithaca continued its hot start with eight more runs on nine hits in the top of the second inning to make the score 15-0, and then put up four more in the third inning to extend its lead to 19-0.

The Bombers capped off their offensive burst with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Boresta went 4-for-4 in the game with five RBI, the home run and two doubles. Fuoti drove in six runs on a 3-for-5 afternoon. Freshman Jack Lynch recorded four hits in six trips to the plate, while W. Little and junior Garrett Snyder each had three hits. W. Little also scored four runs.

Dietz drilled his first career home run this afternoon as he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Sophomore Emmett Dunn improved his record to 3-1 on the season in five innings of work. Dunn allowed three hits and one run with four strikeouts.

The final four innings of the game were divided evenly between juniors Christian LaLomia and Matt Eiel, W. Little and sophomore Trevor Rumsey.

Ithaca is back home tomorrow for a 2 p.m. E8 doubleheader against Houghton. The Bombers will then go on the road to take on No. 24 Oswego on Tuesday, Rochester on Wednesday and return home Thursday for another game against Rochester.
