Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 20 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Vassar 18-3, Clinches Bye in Liberty League Tournament

ITHACA, N.Y. – Playing its second game in less than 24-hours, the 20th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team looked no worse wear when it welcomes Vassar College for a 2:00 p.m. start at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers honored its graduating seniors in the Class of 2018 during a pre-game ceremony and then sent those seniors off a high note with a dominant 18-3 win over the visiting Brewers. The victory improved Ithaca's record to 8-1 in Liberty League play this season, clinching no worse than the second seed and a bye to the Semifinal Round of next month's Liberty League Tournament.

Coming off a 22-0 whitewashing of Bard yesterday evening, the Bombers entered the day on Saturday looking to continue the momentum against a Vassar squad that also scored a spirit boosting 12-10 road victory over RPI yesterday that pulled the Brewers back into contention for the postseason. Although IC has already clinched its spot in the postseason, the Bombers were plenty motivated to solidify their positioning and also send decorated seniors Molly Long, Elizabeth Sauer, and Kimberly Presuto off on a deserved note in what might possibly be their final time to take the turf at Higgins Stadium. Ithaca accomplished both aspirations, racing out to a big lead and never allowing Vassar a foothold in the game in the 18-3 victory.

For the second straight day it was a complete team effort chipping in on the offensive barrage. Five IC players posted multi-point efforts on the day, while 11 total players got on the score sheet on the day. In total, Ithaca rung up a 40-to-10 shot advantage over Vassar, holding a huge territorial edge throughout the contest.

Leading the way for Ithaca were a pair of six-point efforts from junior attacker Allie Panara and sophomore attacker Bailey Herr. Panara posted a goal in her third straight game, while she recorded a season-high five assists for the third time on the campaign. The effort helped her pass former teammate Morgan Racicot '17 for third-place on the program's all-time list with 82 for her career. For Herr, the effort marked her third straight multi-goal performance, as she finished with four goals and two assists.

Junior attacker Elizabeth Rice and freshman midfielder Jacqui Hallack also posted excellent days. The duo combined for eight goals, each firing four past Vassar keeper Emily Chancey. The performance helped Rice become the first IC player this season to hit the 50-goal mark this season, while Hallack's third consecutive multi-goal game helped her reach the 30-goal milestone for the season. Rounding out the multi-point efforts for IC was junior Danika Wagener, who returned to the scoresheet with a pair of assists.

Five other IC players scored goals on the day. Juniors Erin McGee and Maeve Cambria each scored once. For Cambria, it was her fourth goal over the past five games, while McGee continued to build on her career-best season with her 13th on the year. Three freshmen rounded out the scoring, as Caroline Grant, Indira Varma and Madison Boutureira each scored once.

Defensively, Ithaca relentlessly harassed Vassar at every opportunity. The Bombers forced a season-best 20 caused turnovers on the day, while it conceded just three goals one day after marking their first shutout of the season against Bard.

IC's senior duo in the back of Molly Long and Elizabeth Sauer had a day to remember on Saturday, as both defenders hit the 100 caused turnover milestone for their career. Long turned in a career-high seven caused turnovers, while also corralling five ground-balls and one draw control. Sauer posted three caused turnovers and three ground-balls, while she also recorded her first career point on a first-half assist. She nearly also scored her first career goal in the game, but was thwarted on a pair of free-position opportunities.

Junior Kaylou Stoddard had an impressive day with two caused turnovers, while fellow starters Becky Mehorter and Reid Simoncini posted one caused turnover and one ground-ball and one caused turnover and two ground-balls, respectively. Simoncini dominated the draw control, finishing with a career-high 12 in the game to fuel Ithaca's vast possession dominance. Adding caused turnovers on the day were Panara and Rice, as well as freshmen Alex Rabb and Caroline Paquin.

In goal, Kimberly Presuto picked up her 26th career victory with an excellent performance. She finished the day with five saves, a couple of very high difficulty, while she also registered one caused turnover. The effort moved her within 11 saves of becoming just the fourth IC keeper to hit the 400 career save milestone.

Ithaca got off to a fast start with two goals in the opening 3:42 of game action. Rice opened the scoring 1:26 into the game with an unassisted score, while Herr followed with her first of the day off a slick feed from Panara.

Although Vassar would pull back into the game a few minutes later on a free-position score from Storm Sideleau, Ithaca took control over the middle portion of the opening half. IC scored five times over a stretch of 8:01 to gain some significant separation. Hallack scored two during the run, while Herr, Grant and McGee each added tallies. Panara assisted on the bookending goals of the run by Herr and McGee, while Sauer the assist on Hallack's second tally of the stretch at 18:05.

Ithaca locked in the running clock with another five-goal run to conclude the half. Herr, Varme and Panara each scored over the span of 1:23 to stretch the advantage to 10-2. Rice picked up her second of the day with an woman-up goal with a little over five-minutes to go in the half. Hallack pushed the margin to double-digits with her third goal of the half with 2:24 left.

IC did not let up in the second session, scoring the first six goals of the frame to eliminate any hope of a miraculous Vassar comeback. Cambria scored on a nice cut to the crease 47-seconds into the second half. Rice scored twice in the first 10-minutes of the second session, registering a woman-down goal with 22:47 left and scoring her fourth of the game 2:31 later. Hallack, Herr and Boutureira capped the scoring for IC.

Ithaca returns to action with its last non-league game of the season next Wednesday, April 25, as the team travels to Hamilton for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
