Softball Sweeps Plattsburgh, Oswego on Day 2 in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team finished with a sweep on Monday afternoon at the Sunkissed Games.
 
The Bombers defeated Plattsburgh State, 11-2, in six innings in the first day of the day before topping Oswego State, 13-4, in the evening game.
 
Game 1 vs. Plattsburgh
 
Ithaca put up two runs to start things off in the top of the first inning, starting with an Allie Colleran single to second.
 
Colleran advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Gabby Laccona and scored on a Vanessa Brown single to centerfield.
 
Brown was brought in by Hannah Anderson who sent a shot to center for a double, giving IC a 2-0 advantage.
 
In the bottom of the first, Plattsburgh scored to cut the Bombers' lead to 2-1. Dominque Zummo started it off with a double to left and scored on a Jennifer Groat hit.
 
The Bombers added three more runs in the top of the third, starting with Alex Wright reaching on an error. Abby Shields then drew a walk to advance Wright to second. Emily Bloom reached on an error which advanced Shields to third and scored Wright.
 
Both Bloom and Shields were brought in by Hannah Kimmel which pushed IC ahead 5-2.
 
In the top of the fourth, Brown got on base with a single to second before Anderson drew a walk. Wright sent a shot to right field – a triple – which brought in Anderson and Brown for a 7-2 Bombers' lead.
 
Plattsburgh added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda Tantillo drew a walk to get on base and scored on an Anna Fisher triple.
 
Ithaca's biggest scoring inning came in the top of the sixth when six runs crossed the plate.
 
Brown led off the inning with a double to right field and scored on a single to right from Wright.
 
Bloom then drew a walk before Hannah Kimmel was hit by a pitch. Wright, Bloom and Kimmel all scored on a Nikkey Skuraton shot to center, pushing the Bombers' advantage to 11-2.
 
On the next play, Skuraton, who advanced to third on the previous play, scored on a Colleran single to left.
 
 Laccona drew a walk which put Colleran in position to score. Colleran was brought in on a Brown ball to second, which gave the Bombers a 13-2 score which held until the end of the game.
 
Game 2 vs. Oswego
 
Ithaca put up the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning, starting with a Colleran walk. She moved forward on a Laccona grounder to third and scored when Brown singled to center.
 
With the bases loaded, Emily Holden drew a walk which pushed Brown across the plate to score.
 
Oswego went on to tie things up in the top of the second, starting with an Angela Frampton walk. Jessica Roe sent a single to second which advanced Frampton to third. Frampton and Roe then scored on a Sarah McCullough single to center.
 
Ithaca had a big inning in the bottom of the second, scoring five more runs.
 
Skuraton led off with a walk before Colleran singled to left field. Skuraton crossed the plate on a Laccona shot to short and Colleran was brought in by Brown.
 
Anderson sent a double to center which brought in Laccona before Wright doubled to center field. Both Anderson and Wright were bought in by a Hannah Peters' single, giving the Bombers a 7-2 lead.
 
Oswego scored in the top of the third inning when Gabriella Vertuccio drove in Erin Sweeney.
 
The Bombers posted three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Skuraton led off with a single to third before stealing second. Brown drove in Skuraton with a double to left field before bring brought in by an Anderson triple to right.
 
Anderson crossed the plate on a Wright shot to third, to give Ithaca a 10-3 lead.
 
McCullough drove in another run for Oswego in the top of the fifth, bringing in Roe with a double to right.
 
The final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Laccona led off with a single to center and moved forward to third on Brown and Anderson ground outs. Laccona scored on a Wright shot to third, giving IC the 11-4 lead which held until the end of the game.
 
Ithaca is back in action tomorrow against Rowan University at 1:30 p.m. and Eastern Connecticut State at 3:45 p.m.
