ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman
Dom Mikula of the Ithaca College men's track & field team was selected as Field Performer of the Week by the Liberty League on Monday afternoon, December 10.
Last Friday evening at Glazer Arena inside the Athletics and Events Center, Mikula set a new school record in the pole vault in a dual meet with Cortland. Mikula cleared 4.72 meters to break the previous record by .01 meters, set last season by
Martin Desmery, as he won the event by .32 meters.
Although the indoor season is young, Mikula currently ranks second in the country in the pole vault.
Six other student-athletes earned honor roll recognition for their performances over the past week of competition.
Senior
Derek Howes claimed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.86 seconds in a dual meet against Cortland.
Freshman
Daniel Monchek put together a solid collegiate home-opening meet against Cortland as he placed within the top four in four different events. Highlighting his evening was a school record performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds to finish as the runner-up. Monchek then finished third in the long jump (6.58 meters) and triple jump (13.45 meters), and ran a leg on the fourth place 4x200-meter relay team that clocked a time of 1:43.55.
Junior
Maggie Nickerson led the way in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.93 against Cortland.
Sophomore
Sydney Strelec won the triple jump with a mark of 10.44 meters and finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.07 meters in a dual meet against Cortland.
Senior
Peter Ezema logged his 29th career double-double in an 82-73 victory over Wells on December 4. Ezema recorded 17 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and four assists in the victory. He went 8-for-13 from the field in 33 minutes of action.
Sophomore
Grace Cannon recorded a double-double on last Saturday in the No. 25 Bombers' 71-60 win over Stevens. She netted a career-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead IC past the Ducks en route to a 5-1 record on the season. Cannon has scored in double-figures in four of Ithaca's six games this season.
