RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team was narrowly edged by RPI, 153-147, on Saturday afternoon in the A&E Aquatics Pavilion.
Swimming
The Bombers opened up the day with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Jaclyn Pecze,
Ashley Warren,
Jesse Ford and
Genny Tripler finished in 1:53.52 behind RPI.
IC's team of
Rachel Smertz,
Karolina Baranowski,
Alex Estanislau and
Caroline Bissaillon also finished in fourth place with a time of 1:57.80.
Ithaca proved strong in the 1,000 yard freestyle, as
Morgan Hoffman-Smith won the field, followed by
Katie Conte and
Maura Beuttel in second and third places, respectively.
Hoffman-Smith was well ahead of the competition, swimming to a time of 10:52.58, nearly 46 seconds ahead of second place. Conte finished in second with a time of 11:38.41 while Beuttel was third with a time of 11:40.90.
Hoffman-Smith followed that up with another win in the 200 freestyle after swimming to a time of 1:58.22. Ford, a first-year, was close behind, coming in second in 2:00.32.
Angelina Domena also finished within the top five, swimming to a time of 2:03.36 for fourth place.
IC's top finished in the 100 backstroke was Smertz, who came in fourth place with a time of 1:05.00.
Tori Eastham finished in fifth with a time of 1:05.44.
The Bombers finished third through sixth in the 100 breaststroke, with Warren taking third in 1:11.32 to lead the pack.
Hannah Parbst came in fourth with a time of 1:12.20, followed by Baranowski in fifth with a time of 1:14.40 and
Casey Koenig in sixth with a time of 1:14.45.
First-year
Olivia Schlackman was the top IC finisher in the 200 butterfly, coming in second place with a time of 2:21.75.
Kaitlyn Scott finished in third with a time of 2:22.56 while Estanislau finished in fourth after swimming to a time of 2:24.38.
Ginny Fimmano rounded out the IC swimmers with fifth-place finish in 2:29.93.
The Bombers picked up a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle, as well as a fourth, fifth and sixth places.
Tripler lead IC, coming in second with a time of 25.17. Bissaillon finished in third place with a time of 25.93 while
Emilee Murray was fourth with a time of 26.68 and
Josie Berman came in fifth with a time of 26.78.
Pecze, a senior, was the top finisher for the Bombers in the 100 freestyle, finishing second after swimming to a time of 55.37. Tripler followed that with a third-place finish in 55.59. Bissaillon rounded out the top five, coming in fifth place with a time of 57.13.
Ithaca's top finisher in the 200 backstroke was Smertz, who came in fourth place with a time of 2:21.13.
In the 200 breaststroke, Parbst finished in third place with a time of 2:35.92 to lead the Bombers. Warren was close behind with a fourth-place finish in 2:36.93 while
Gabrielle Humphrey took fifth in 2:40.04.
Hoffman-Smith claimed her third win of the day in the 500 freestyle, swimming to a time of 5:17.41, nearly 11 seconds faster than second place. Ford finished in third place with a time of 5:30.09 while Schlackman came in fifth place in 5:38.11.
The Bombers added another win in the 100 butterfly, as Pecze claimed the top spot in 59.53. Murray took second place with a time of 1:02.41 while Estanislau came in fifth in 1:04.58.
Domena was the top IC finisher in the 200 IM, swimming to a time of 2:20.00 for fourth place.
Ithaca closed out the day with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Ford, Pecze, Hoffman-Smith and Tripler raced to a time of 3:40.09, edging second-place RPI by .87 seconds.
Diving
Graduate student
Anna Belson won both the one and three meter boards to pick up crucial points for IC.
In the one meter, Belson won the field with a score of 260.70 while
Jocelyn Pawcio came in second place with 233.30 points.
Samantha Lanzafame finished in fourth with a score of 208.20 while
Ava Lowell rounded out the top five with a score of 188.65.
Belson followed that up with a win in the three meter after racking up 256.35 points. Pawcio finished in third place with a score of 221.50 while Lowell came in fourth with 196.35 points and Lanzafame ended in fifth with a score of 186.50.
The Bombers are back in action next Saturday, November 3, when they make the short trip to Cortland for a 1 p.m. start time. IC is home again on Friday, November 9 against Le Moyne.
