Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to RIT, 2-1, on the Road

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team dropped a road contest to RIT, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bombers are now 12-2-2 on the year with a 6-2-0 Liberty League record, while RIT improves to 9-4-2 and 4-2-2 in conference play.

It was the Tigers who got on the board first, scoring with less than three minutes to go in the first half. RIT's Marla Rogers netted her sixth goal of the season while Courtney McHale and Abbey Saia were credited with the assists.

The Bombers, however, wasted no time in getting the equalizer, as first-year Megan O'Reilly put a ball in the back of the net with just 57 seconds left to play in the first half. The goal marks her second of the season.

Despite IC opening up the second half with three shots, RIT put away the game-winner in the 59th minute. Jenna Valleriano scored her first of the season while McHale and Maggie Hoey picked up assists on the play.

Ithaca had plenty of offensive against the Tigers, outshooting them 19-4 and notching seven corner kicks to RIT's zero.

The Bombers controlled much of the action from the jump, not allowing RIT a shot until 41:45 in.

Sophomore Alex Epifani tested goalkeeper Alyssa Salls for the first time at the 11:25 mark, which Salls saved.

Following back-to-back IC shots that missed the mark, Epifani put another shot on frame, which Salls stopped once again. Junior Gabriella Mihale then notched a shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but Salls was there to make the play.

In the 34th minute, Ithaca ripped three shots in a row, all saved by Salls. Epifani got off the initial shot and added another off the rebound before Shoshana Bedrosian sent one to goal.

The Bombers registered two more shots on goal prior to scoring, starting with a Jenny Lidwin attempted in the 38th minute, followed by a Reid Garner shot in the 41st minute. Salls made the play on both attempts.

RIT's Marla Roberts registered the first shot of the game for the Tigers at 41:45. Her shot was blocked which ultimately led to RIT's first goal less than 30 seconds later.

Mihale opened up the second half for IC with a shot on goal just 1:52 in, which was saved by Salls.

The Bombers notched back-to-back shots in the 58th minute, which were both blocked, before RIT went on to score its second goal in the 59th minute.

Ithaca continued to push for the tying goal for the remainder of the game, generating several chances while not allowing another RIT shot.

Junior Ally Christman tested Salls in the 63rd minute, which was saved. Mihale then had a shot blocked in the 64th minute.

The Bombers' final shot on frame came in the 78th minute, when Epifani's shot was stopped by Salls. Ithaca registered two more shots on the day, but neither were on goal as they sailed wide and high.

Ithaca closes out the regular season on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Vassar. The Liberty League quarterfinal game is slated for Tuesday, October 30 while the semifinals and final match will be held on Nov. 3-4 at the top seed.
