Baseball Falters at Brockport, 7-3

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team wound up on the wrong end of a 7-3 decision against The College at Brockport on Wednesday afternoon at Clark V. Whited Field. Ithaca's setback halts the Bombers' two-game winning streak and drops their record to 9-7 on the season, while Brockport improves to 14-8.

The Golden Eagles jumped on Ithaca early, scoring six runs over the first two innings on eight hits. The Bombers did, however, get one run back in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore Matt Carey with classmate Sam Little on third base.

Ithaca trimmed its deficit to 6-2 in the fourth on a run-scoring double by sophomore Adam Gallagher, but Brockport got the run back in the bottom half of the inning.

Junior Domenic Boresta scored Ithaca's final run of the game on a groundout off the bat of sophomore Webb Little, which was the final run in the contest.

S. Little, who scored two runs, and Gallagher both went 2-for-4 in the setback. Boresta, Carey and seniors Ryan Henchey and Josh Savacool notched the other hits for Ithaca.

Junior Robby Buffis took the loss in 1.1 innings pitched. Buffis surrendered eight hits and six runs (five earned) before giving way to freshman Tom Cosentino, who lasted 5.2 innings. Cosentino struck out three batters and allowed one run on three hits. Sophomore Zach Zottola tossed the final inning of relief.

The Bombers head to Elmira College this weekend for three Empire 8 Conference games. Saturday's doubleheader, April 8, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
