OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as No. 9 Oswego State downed the Bombers, 6-3, at the Laker Baseball Field. Ithaca falls to 20-9 on the season, while Oswego improves to 24-8.
Ithaca was held to just two hits through eight innings of play, which led to one run, and committed six errors in the field. Facing a 6-1 deficit in the top of the ninth, the Bombers attempted a comeback and strung together three consecutive hits to pull to within a 6-3 different, and had two runners on base with one out, but the next two batters were retired.
Oswego got off to a 1-0 lead after the first inning on three hits, but the Bombers answered in the third on an RBI double from sophomore
Webb Little to plate fellow sophomore
Matt Carey.
The Lakers added two runs in the fifth and one run apiece over the next three innings to establish their 6-1 cushion.
Carey drove in both runs in the ninth inning on a base hit through the left side to bring in senior
Josh Savacool and sophomore
Adam Gallagher, who both found their way on with singles.
Sophomore
Jake Binder suffered his first loss of the season in six-plus innings pitch as he allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts. Freshman
Tom Cosentino fanned two batters in an inning of work, while sophomore
Andrew Bailey allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning.
Despite a 0-for-4 day at the plate, senior
Ryan Henchey stole two bases, while Bailey swiped another. Junior
Domenic Boresta and sophomore
Sam Little accounted for the other two hits for the Bombers.
Ithaca heads to Oneonta tomorrow for another non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
