ITHACA, N.Y. – Still riding the momentum from its thrilling overtime victory over sixth-ranked SUNY Cortland, the No. 13 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team kept right-on rolling on Saturday afternoon when it jumped back into Empire 8 Conference play with a clash against Alfred University at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers put on one of the most dominant attacking displays in program history, racking up 26 goals in the lopsided 26-2 victory. The win improves IC's record to 6-1 on the year and 2-0 within conference play.
The Bombers held possession for almost the entirety of the contest, translating their time with the ball into a 46-to-9 advantage in shot attempts. Ithaca fired home 17 goals in the opening half, while they finished the second stanza with a 9-0 advantage on the scoreboard. The 26-goal is the highest single-game total since IC struck for 27 tallies in a 27-11 victory over Slippery Rock during the 1985 season. The 24-goal margin of victory is tied for the third-biggest in history, trailing a 26-0 win over Oneonta in 1981 and a 25-0 victory over Hartwick in 1972.
Highlighting Ithaca's offensive dominance was a memorable game for senior midfielder
Morgan Cadwell. Coming off a five-point effort, which included the game-winning goal against the Red Dragons on Thursday, Cadwell scored four times in the game. Sitting on 97 career goals coming into the game, she became Ithaca's latest member of the 100-goal club on an excellent goal from the run of play midway through the second half.
Senior attackers
Morgan Racicot and
Ally Runyon continued to light up the scoresheet for Ithaca. Racicot finished with a game-high six points, scoring two first-half goals and adding four assists throughout the contest. Runyon chipped in five points on four goals and one assist. She scored her final tally just 2:44 into the second half, before spending the majority of the second half on the sidelines with the game well in-hand.
