No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Elmira 18-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team continued to hold serve on its home turf on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out Elmira College 18-0 at extremely foggy Higgins Stadium. The victory pushed IC's record to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in Empire 8 play.

The Bombers continued to pick up rare results, while the offense continued to fire on all cylinders on Tuesday. Just three days after racking up 26 goals against Alfred, IC struck for 18 against the Soaring Eagles. The win marked Ithaca's first shutout since holding Utica scoreless in a 15-0 win at Higgins Stadium in the final day of the 2014 regular season.

Ithaca had 10 different players find the back of the net on the day, headlined by fifth-year senior Ally Runyon's five goals. The five scoring tallies upped her career total to 176 goals, bringing her within eight of tying Tracy Rivas '14 (184) for the program record.

Senior Morgan Racicot also collected five points on the day, scoring once and adding four assists. Senior Gaby Berne chipped in four points, scoring twice and also dishing out a pair of assists. Sophomores Allie Panara and Erin McGee both amassed three points, each scoring twice and posting one assist.

Freshman Bailey Herr scored a pair of goals, while seniors Olivia Oppenheim and Morgan Cadwell, sophomore Danika Wagener and freshman Erika Fortune each netted one tally. Fortune's was the first of her collegiate career, while she also picked up an assist to record her first career multi-point effort. Sophomore Elizabeth Rice also picked up an assist in the contest.

Junior goalie Kimberly Presuto picked up her fifth win of the season, getting the start for the Bombers. She did not face a shot in the opening 30 minutes. Senior Emily Ross took over to begin the second half. She made three saves, including a pair in succession to keep the Soaring Eagles off the scoreboard.

Defensively, it was a huge contest for freshman Becky Mehorter and sophomore Jayne Carver. Both posted career games with the Mehorter forcing four caused turnovers and picking up three ground-balls. Carver finished with three caused turnovers and four ground-balls. Senior Elizabeth Sauer posted two forced Elmira miscues and one ground-ball, while sophomore Reid Simoncini posted one of each in the game.

The Bombers jumped on the front foot right from the opening draw. Runyon scored twice in the first 1:01 of the game to take a lead that was never challenged by the visitors. She went on to net her hat-trick just under eight minutes into the game.

Oppenheim fired home a top-shelf shot after besting two defenders to get Ithaca the 10-goal lead 10:52 into the game. The Bombers added six additional goals to take a 16-0 lead to halftime. Runyon scored her fifth of the half with 6:12 remaining, while Berne capped the scoring in the opening 30 minutes with a goal off of an excellent feed from Racicot.

Thick fog rolled in during the waning minutes of the half making things difficult for both sides to see during the second session. With the lead well in-hand, the Bombers slowed down the game, opting for possession with visibility low. Fortune scored her first career goal with 22:24 left in the game. Wagener netted IC's final tally with 8:41 remaining.

Ithaca faces another nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday, April 1, when it hits the road to face No. 18 St. John Fisher College. Start time for the game is 3:00 p.m.
