ITHACA, N.Y. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association recently announced that
Emily Morley of the nationally-ranked women's crew team has been named a Division III Pocock First-Team All-American following an outstanding senior season.
A senior co-captain on this year's team, Morley rowed as part of the Bombers' successful varsity 8 campaign, which included six top finishes. The Bombers' varsity 8 finished first at the State Championships in Saratoga Springs on April 30 before taking gold at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. Morley and her boat mates would earn one of only two at-large bids into the NCAA Division III Championship where they secured a spot in the grand final by virtue of a second place finish in their respective heat. The Bombers would go on to finish sixth overall in the final.
Morely, who also competed as a member of the College's sculling team, has had success on the international stage this season as well after she became the first rower from the Bahamas to receive a spot in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this summer. Morley will compete in Rio beginning Saturday, August 6 through August 9 with medal rounds beginning August 10.
To be considered, a student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution. The student-athlete must have participated in at least 75% of all races during the current season (all races before and including May 14, 2016). The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat (all race before and including May 14, 2016).
Ithaca, which has now had 31 All-Americans since 2000, has grown to be one of the nation's top rowing programs, having qualified for 15 NCAA championships overall to go along with back-to-back national titles in 2004 and 2005.
