Bombers Come out Firing in Sweep of Union

ITHACA, N.Y. – Kelly Robichaud hit three homeruns on Wednesday as the nationally-ranked Ithaca College softball team swept the visiting Union College Dutchwomen at Doris Kostrinsky Field.  With the wins, No. 19 Ithaca moved to 29-7 overall while Union falls to 7-21 on the season.

ITHACA 8, UNION 0 (Five Innings)

The Bombers got things started in the second inning when Hannah Anderson doubled to right-center to score Robichaud to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead.

Ithaca would add to its lead in the third inning with three runs on four hits including back-to-back homeruns by Casey Gavin and Robichaud to take a 4-0 lead before Emily Bloom scurried home on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to stake Ithaca to a five run lead.

In the fifth and deciding inning, Robichaud led off with her second homer of the game and seventh in her last nine contests to make it 6-0 before Jessie Fleck and Bloom each drove in a run to give the Bombers an 8-0 lead.

Laura Quicker earned the win for Ithaca in the circle to move to 13-3 on the season after allowing just two hits over five innings of work.  The senior pitcher fanned two in the win.

Ithaca had 10 hits overall led by Robichaud's 2-for-3 effort.  The Vernon, Conn. native drove in a pair and scored three runs.

ITHACA 8, UNION 0 (Five Innings)

Robichaud continued to be a nightmare for the opposing pitchers in the night cap as the senior catcher went 2-for-3 again with two more RBI and solo homerun.  Robichaud has now smacked eight homeruns in her last 10 games.

RBI-singles by Robichaud and Nikkey Skuraton gave the Bombers a 2-0 edge through two innings before the Bombers erupted for six runs on six hits in the fourth.  After Bloom scored on a throwing error, Ithaca would take a 4-0 lead when Fleck grounded out to second base which allowed Skuraton to advance home, but the Bombers weren't done there as Allie Colleran and Robichaud would hit consecutive homeruns to put IC up by seven runs.  As the inning continued, Bloom would plate the deciding run with a double to left that scored Alex Wright.

Allison Macari, the reigning Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week, continued her dominance inside the circle after allowing just two hits and no runs over five innings.  The senior struck out eight to earn her 11th win of the season (11-3).  Macari has not allowed a run over her last 32.2 innings.

The Bombers will close out their regular season at 12 p.m. on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader against the Buffalo State Bengals in Buffalo.
