ELMIRA, N.Y. – Juniors
Ryan Henchey and
Josh Savacool, and sophomore
Domenic Boresta each tallied four hits at the plate to lead the Ithaca College baseball team to a 12-6 Empire 8 Conference victory at Elmira College on Wednesday evening at Dunn Field. Ithaca, now 16-12 (7-3 E8), pounded out 19 hits in the win as all nine starters got in the hit column. Elmira drops to 8-17 on the season.
The Bombers quickly took a 1-0 lead in the first as Savacool led off with an infield single and then stole second. A groundout allowed Savacool to advance to third and he would come home on a sacrifice fly from classmate
Trevor Thompson.
Boresta staked Ithaca to a 2-0 edge in the second on a single to left-center to bring Henchey around to score. Henchey found his way on with a single and moved into scoring position with a stolen base.
Boresta struck again in the fourth with an RBI base hit that pushed home freshman
Webb Little from second to put Ithaca up, 3-0.
The Bombers broke the game open in the fifth with four runs on four hits. The rally started on an RBI groundout by freshman
Sam Little with Savacool on third. Another base hit from W. Little brought in junior
Brennan McCormack for the RBI, and freshman
Matt Carey would also score on an error. Henchey capped off the frame with a run-scoring base hit as W. Little came around from second.
Three more runs came home for the Bombers on a pair of doubles and a groundout in the sixth. Thompson doubled in Savacool with one out, and S. Little followed with a two-base hit to bring in McCormack. With two runners in scoring position, Carey grounded out to third base which allowed Thompson to scamper home.
Senior
Zach Cole delivered Ithaca's 11th run of the game on a fielder's choice with Henchey 90 feet from home in the seventh. In the ninth, Cole drove in the Bombers' final run of the game with Boresta on second.
Elmira scored its six runs over the sixth and seventh innings. The Soaring Eagles scored twice in the sixth and then notched four more in their next at bat.
Senior
Benji Parkes went six strong innings in a winning effort on the mound. Parkes, now 4-3 on the season, struck out four batters and allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits. It is the sixth start this season that the lefty has tossed six or more innings.
Junior
Jean Germosen and freshman
Andrew Bailey combined to throw the final three innings of the game.
Ithaca will be back in action on Friday, April 22 at home against Houghton College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
