ELMIRA, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Ithaca College softball picked up two more wins in Empire 8 Conference play on Monday as the No. 21 Bombers allowed just one run in a sweep of Elmira College.  Ithaca, which has now won six straight and 13 of its last 14 contests, moved to 22-6 overall and remained unbeaten against conference competition at 10-0. The Soaring Eagles fall to 3-9 in the conference standings and 5-9 overall.
ITHACA 10, ELMIRA 1 – Five Innings
After a scoreless first inning, Ithaca loaded the bases in the top of the second before an out could be recorded.Â
Hannah Anderson would deliver the first run of the game after lifting a sacrifice fly to center which allowed
Casey Gavin to tag up and cross home plate. The Bombers would double their lead when the next batter,
Erin McQuillan, drove
Alex Wright home on a groundout to the shortstop to give Ithaca a 2-0 lead through two innings of play.
The Bombers would add five more runs in the top of the third on four hits including two-run knocks from both Gavin and Wright as Ithaca sent 10 hitters to the dish before Elmira could retire the side.
The Soaring Eagles would get one back in the bottom of the third, but the Bombers' offense three more runs in the fifth after a solo blast from
Kelly Robichaud followed by an RBI-single by
Emily Bloom and an infield error on Elmira's part made it 10-1, Ithaca.
Laura Quicker induced three quick groundouts in the bottom of the fifth en route to her 11th win of the season. The senior tossed five innings and limited the Soaring Eagles to just one run on four hits. She tallied four outs via strikes.
In all, Ithaca had 10 hits including three for extra bases. Anderson was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Gavin and McQuillan had two hits apiece in the win.  Â
ITHACA 6, ELMIRA 0
The long ball propelled the Bombers to another win in the nightcap after Ithaca belted two homers off the Soaring Eagles' starting pitcher.
The Bombers scored three unearned runs through the first two innings after Wright crossed home plate on an infield error in the first frame before
Vanessa Brown drove in a pair with a single up the middle.
In the fourth, Gavin launched a solo shot, her second of the season, to make it 4-0 while Robichaud connected for her second dinger of the day in the fifth that scored
Nikkey Skuraton in the process to give Ithaca a 6-0 edge.
Allison Macari picked her third straight win and sixth overall (6-3) after throwing seven shutout innings where she scattered just two hits and had seven strikeouts. The senior has allowed just two runs in her last three starts.
The Bombers will host Cortland in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Kostrinsky Field. Fans are encouraged to #ShedtheRed on Wednesday as anyone donating an article of red clothing will receive an Ithaca Bombers t-shirt for free while supplies last. All donations will benefit the Ithaca Rescue Mission.
