ITHACA, N.Y.  —Freshman
Danika Wagener scored three goals and the Ithaca College women's lacrosse team earned an 8-6 win over William Smith Tuesday in non-league action at Higgins Stadium.
Senior
Riley Marion scored two goals and won two draw controls, freshman
Allison Panara won three draw controls while scoring one goal with one assist, and junior
Morgan Racicot and sophomore
Molly Long each handed out two assists for the Bombers (8-3).
Long also caused two turnovers, junior
Gaby Berne collected five groundballs to go with two draw controls and one goal scored, and senior
Erika Johnson scooped up three groundballs as Ithaca improved to 4-1 in home games.
Junior
Emily Ross started the first half and made a season-most 10 saves while allowing only two goals. Sophomore
Kimberly Presuto came on in the second half and made two saves to preserve the win.
Ithaca won 12 of 16 draw controls against William Smith (4-7)Â to win its seventh straight game against the Herons.
Clinging to a 6-5 lead with 12:48 remaining, Long connected with Wagener for a goal that gave the Bombers a two-goal lead, 7-5.
William Smith countered with Melissa Moore's free position goal with 3:38 remaining, but Marion found Panara, who bounced in a goal from in front of the cage with 2:08 to play, and Ithaca kept the ball away from the Herons to seal the win.
Ithaca took a 4-2 lead into halftime. Wagener scored twice, while Marion and freshman
Julia Silvestri added tallies during the opening half.
William Smith jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal 11 seconds in, and neither team scored until Wagener's unassisted goal 10:56 into the game.
Racicot then set up Marion's first goal as IC led 2-1 with 12:29 remaining in the opening half, but the Herons pulled even on Alexandra Bird's unassisted goal with 10:06 to play.
But the Bombers quickly reclaimed the lead, as freshman
Allison Panara connected with Silvestri for a goal just 39 seconds later. Sophomore
Molly Long helped reestablish the two-goal lead when she found a cutting Wagener for a goal with 1:12 remaining in the half.
Marion's free-position goal 1:59 into the second put the Bombers on top 5-2, but the Herons answered with a pair of goals and trailed 5-4 on Geneva Calder's free-position goal with 16:12 remaining.
Ithaca reclaimed a two-goal lead when Racicot found a wide-open Berne with 13:57 remaining, and the Bombers did enough on defense to earn their third straight win.
Ithaca travels to Hartwick College for a 1 p.m. Empire 8 game Saturday afternoon.
