ITHACA, N.Y. —Junior
Morgan Racicot scored three goals and five student-athletes scored two or more goals as the Ithaca College women's lacrosse team evened its record at 2-2 thanks to Monday's 14-9 win over Babson College (Mass.) in a contest played at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
Racicot also handed out two assists, while junior
Morgan Cadwell added two goals, as did senior
Riley Marion, and freshmen
Erin McGee and
Julia Silvestri as the Bombers won their first game of their Spring Break trip.
Marion won a team-most four draw controls while Cadwell and Silvestri scored both of their goals on free-position shots as Ithaca scored six free-position goals on nine shots against the Beavers (1-2).
Freshman
Danika Wagener added a goal with an assist, while junior
Gaby Berne and freshman
Allison Panara each added a goal in the win, Ithaca's first-ever meeting with Babson.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Sauer caused four turnovers, while Wagener caused three turnovers and Panara caused two turnovers for Ithaca, which pressured Babson into 30 turnovers.
Sophomore
Kimberly Presuto made six saves and allowed four second-half goals to help Ithaca hold on for the win.
Leading 8-6 early in the second half, Silvestri scored an unassisted tally 4:02 into the stanza to spark the Bombers on a crucial 6-1 run. Racicot scored a pair of goals during the spurt, while McGee, Cadwell and Berne added goals. Berne's tally put the Bombers up 14-7 with 6:10 remaining to give Ithaca the lead for good.
Neither team scored during the first 8:25 until Racicot helped set up IC's first two goals. She found Wagener for the first score, then 15 seconds later set up Marion to put Ithaca up 2-0. Twenty-seven seconds later the lead swelled to 3-0 on Racicot's first goal, and Ithaca enjoyed a 4-0 lead on Panara's man-up goal with 17:19 remaining in the opening half.
The Bombers held the Beavers scoreless until Charlotte O'Halloran's goal with 16:46 remaining in the first half, but 48 seconds later McGee scored for a 5-1 lead, and Marion pushed the lead to 6-1 on an unassisted goal halfway through the first.
Babson closed the half on a 4-2 run as Ithaca took an 8-5 lead into halftime. O'Halloran, who finished with four goals, pulled the Beavers within two, 8-6 on an unassisted goal 3:28 into the second before Ithaca went on its 6-1 run.
The Bombers continue their Spring Break trip with a 3 p.m. clash vs. Skidmore College Friday afternoon at the National Training Center.
