ITHACA, N.Y. —The nationally-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team scored 11 first-quarter goals en route to a 20-1 win over Lycoming (Pa.) College Tuesday afternoon in the Bombers' home opener.
Sophomore
Jake Cotton equaled his career-high with six points on two goals and four assists, and freshman
Will Witter (four goals, one assist) and junior
Jack Shumway (one goal, four assists) each added five points for Ithaca (2-0).
The Bombers, ranked 18th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches' poll and 19th in the LaxMagazine.com preseason poll, have won the last 10 matchups against the Warriors (1-3) dating back to the 2005 season.
Junior
John Januszkiewicz and freshman
Connor Hulme each added two goals with two assists, while freshman
Owen Smith finished with two goals and one assist for Ithaca, which scored its most goals since a 23-8 home win over Hartwick April 18, 2015.
Sophomore
Kaelan Fitzpatrick added two goals, while sophomore
David Drozjock and freshman
Conner Crosson tallied one goal and one assist in the win.
Senior All-American defender
Eli Gobrecht caused four turnovers, while junior
Grant Osadchey collected seven groundballs for IC. Osadchey won 87.5 percent of his faceoffs (7 of 8), while sophomore
Steven Landspurg won 76.9 percent of his faceoffs (10 of 13).
Senior
Scott Sidnam made four saves and did not allow a goal in 27:58 to earn the win. Ithaca held Lycoming scoreless for the first 28:18 until Peter Pluta scored a man-up goal with 1:42 remaining in the opening half.
Neither team scored during the first 6:13 of the contest until Drozjock found Cotton for a goal with 8:47 left in the opening stanza. That started a run of 11 Bomber goals in a stretch of 7:54 as eight different student-athletes scored during the run.
Cotton fed Shumway for a tally 18 seconds into the second, and Shumway returned the favor, hitting Cotton for a score two minutes later.
Januszkiewicz set up Crosson for a goal with 9:45 remaining in the second to give Ithaca a 14-0 lead, and the Bombers breezed to the win.
Ithaca travels to Rensselaer Polytechnic for a 1 p.m. showdown Saturday afternoon.Â
