ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team earned a 55-point victory over Alfred University, 92-37, in an Empire 8 Conference matchup on Saturday in Ben Light Gymnasium. Ithaca improves its record to 13-10 on the season and 9-5 in the Empire 8, while Alfred falls to 2-21 overall and 1-13 in the conference.
It took nearly two minutes for the Bombers to get on the board in the first quarter, but after the game's opening basket by senior
Keri Steele, Ithaca would go on to build a 23-point lead by the end of the period, 28-5.
Eight different players scored in the first quarter, led by six points from sophomore
Jordan Beers. Junior
Ali Ricchiuti chipped in five points, while sophomores
Erin Woop and
Julie Yacovoni each added four points during the first 10 minutes.
The Bombers continued to increase their lead throughout the second quarter and went into halftime with a commanded 31-point difference, 45-14. Five more players would add to the points column for Ithaca by halftime.
Ithaca went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line in the first half and assisted on 12 of 15 made baskets.
In the third quarter, Ithaca dropped 29 points and added 18 more in the fourth quarter to account for the 92-point total. Alfred scored 23 points in the second half.
All 15 players that saw action in the game scored at least one point, while recording at least nine minutes played. Ithaca assisted on 25 of its 33 made attempts in the game and finished 20-for-24 at the line.
Yacovoni notched a career-high 18 points with six rebounds, while junior
Shayna Gaskins posted 12 points, four rebounds and four steals. Junior
Erin Ferguson also reached double digits with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Freshman
Breanna Bermel netted a career-best eight points in nine minutes of action, while Ricchiuti finished with eight points and two assists.
Woop, Beers, and freshmen
Allie Tunick and
Annie Giannone all dished out three assists for the Bombers. Steele handed out four helpers with four boards, while Beers pulled down six rebounds.
Sophomore
Allison Spaschak hit a pair of three-pointers for six points.
The Bombers wrap up their regular season with two home games next Friday and Saturday against Utica and Hartwick. Game times are at 8 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.
