HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team concluded its 2016 regular season on Saturday as the Bombers fell to nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-0, in an Empire 8 contest at De Baun Athletics Complex. With the loss, Ithaca falls to 10-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the Empire 8 standings. Regardless of the outcome, the Bombers had already clinched the third seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championship. Stevens, which entered the contest ranked ninth in the nation according to the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, improved to 16-1-0 and 8-0-0, respectively.
Ithaca hung tight with the Ducks through the first half as the Bombers allowed just one goal, which came in the seventh minute of play. The game would remain deadlocked at 1-0 for the next 46 minutes until the Ducks were able to claim a 2-0 lead after converting a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
From there, Stevens would score three more goals while holding the Bombers to six shots over the final 45 minutes of play en route to the conference win.
Stacey DiGiorgio was tagged with the loss and moved to 10-4-2 on the season. The sophomore keeper allowed three goals and made a team-high seven saves.Â
Karen Macke played over 23 minute and gave up a pair of goals to go along with three saves to her credit. Freshman
Sara Jakobsze also saw time in goal for the Bombers, though she did not face a shot.
The Bombers took 11 shots overall in the game led by
Jess Demczar,
Shoshana Bedrosian and
Megan Nash who had two shots apiece.
Ithaca's season will continue on Saturday as the third-seeded Bombers take on the second-seeded Nazareth Golden Flyers in the semifinal round of the 2016 Empire 8 Championship in Hoboken, N.J. Top-seeded Stevens will host the championship and duel fourth-seeded Hartwick in the tournament's other semifinal pairing.      Â
