ALFRED, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team evened its record to 6-6 on the season with an 83-64 Empire 8 Conference road victory at Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. Ithaca has now won three straight contests and is 3-1 in the conference.
For the second consecutive game, the Bombers never trailed and set a team-high this season with 22 assists and matched their most three-pointers made with 12 en route to the win.
Senior
Keri Steele led the way with 17 points on 8-for-16 shooting to go along with four rebounds. Sophomore
Jordan Beers also reached double figures with 14 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Beers made four three-pointers on seven attempts.
Sophomores
Erin Woop and
Julie Yacovoni each chipped in eight points. Woop also contributed four rebounds and two assists.
Junior
Shayna Gaskins pulled down a game-high nine rebounds (five offensive) with six points, four assists and two steals, while classmate
Ali Ricchiuti dished out a game-best seven assists with six points and six rebounds.
Sophomore
Allison Spaschak and freshman
Sara Jackson both hit a pair of three-pointers to account for six points apiece, while junior
Erin Ferguson tallied five rebounds and four points.
Junior
Kiera Murray (three points) and freshmen
Allie Tunick (three points) and
Annie Giannone (two points) accounted for the rest of Ithaca's offense.
After the first quarter, Ithaca held an 18-13 lead and then went off for 33 points in the second period to take a 51-33 advantage into halftime. The Saxons would outscore the Bombers in the third quarter, 17-14, but Ithaca responded with 18 points in the fourth to 14 for Alfred.
The Bombers led every team category in the game. Ithaca shot 43.1-percent from the field (31-for-72), 46.2-percent from three-point range (12-for-26) and 81.8-percent at the free throw line (9-for-11). The Bombers grabbed 46 rebounds, committed just 11 turnovers and recorded four blocked shots.
Ithaca returns home on Jan. 12 for a conference showdown with Elmira at 8 p.m. Next Tuesday's home contest is the last for the Bombers until Feb. 4 as they go on a six-game road trip from Jan. 16 to Jan. 30.
