ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team notched a 63-42 Empire 8 Conference victory at Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon in Speidel Gymnasium. Ithaca has now won four consecutive games, and eight of its last nine, to improve to 11-7 on the season and 7-2 in the Empire 8.
The Bombers once again never trailed in the triumph over Elmira as they did back in the first meeting on Jan. 12. All 15 players for Ithaca saw at least five minutes of action, while nine members of the team contributed in the points column.
Ithaca shot just 34.0-percent in the game (18-for-53), but held the Soaring Eagles to 27.6-percent overall (16-for-58). The Bombers also went to the free throw line a season-high 37 times, making 24, while Elmira took just seven attempts. On the defensive end, Ithaca forced a season-best 27 turnovers, which led to 29 points.
Senior
Keri Steele paced the offense with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 at the line, to go along with four rebounds. Junior
Erin Ferguson also went 4-for-7 overall for 10 points and tallied her second double-double in three contests with 10 boards. Ferguson also added three steals and two blocks.
Junior
Ali Ricchiuti chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Sophomore
Julie Yacovoni tallied nine points with three boards, while classmate
Erin Woop recorded all six of her points at the free throw line (6-for-8).
Freshman
Meghan Mazzella scored a career-high eight points with four rebounds in just seven minutes of action. Fellow freshman Meghan PIckell pulled down six rebounds with three steals and two assists, while freshman
Annie Giannone had three points.
Junior
Shayna Gaskins grabbed six rebounds in the win.
The Bombers wrap up their six-game road trip at Nazareth on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. Ithaca will be back in Ben Light Gymnasium on Feb. 4 against St. John Fisher at 8 p.m.
