ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought battle to nationally-ranked SUNY Oneonta, 2-0, on Saturday on the final day of the Mayor's Cup Tournament at the Wright Soccer Campus.
With the loss, the Bombers fall to 0-2-0 on the season while Oneonta, which entered the day ranked third overall in the nation, remained unbeaten with a 3-0-0 mark.
The Bombers kept Oneonta at bay for much of the first half until the Red Dragons posted what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 44th minute and never looked back.
The hosts would score an insurance goal in the 67th minute to earn the 2-0 decision.
Zach Jacobsen played strong in net for the Bombers and turned away seven shots in 90 minutes. The junior goalie sits at 0-2-0 to start the 2015 campaign.
Jordan Filipowich was credited with Ithaca's only shot of the contest.
The Bombers will return to play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with their home-opener at Carp Wood Field against Cortland. The contest will be part of the athletic department's #ShedtheRed campaign. The first 50 students to donate an article of red clothing will receive a blue Bombers t-shirt. All items collected will then be donated to the Ithaca Rescue Mission.
