Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – For the third time in the past four seasons, the Ithaca College field hockey team starts the season with a 2-0 record after defeating Washington College, 3-1, at Higgins Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was Ithaca's home opener for the 2015 season – the Bombers also started 2-0 in 2013 and 2012.
Sophomore
Amanda Schell staked Ithaca to an early 1-0 lead on a high shot from the center of the zone that was deflected by Washington's goalkeeper into the back of the net in the 11th minute. Schell notched the game's only goal in the first half.
Ithaca had another chance to score with just over 10 minutes left in the first half when junior
Cassie Schuttrumpf fired a shot towards cage, but was denied on a diving save.

Katie Lass, came up with four crucial saves in the first 35 minutes to maintain the Bombers' lead. On three different occasions, Lass was forced to turn away shots while lying on the ground.
Washington outshot Ithaca, 10-4, in the first half, and both teams put four shots on goal.
As the second half got underway, the Bombers tacked on another goal just 1:17 into the period. Sophomore
Michaela Donohue put in a shot for her second collegiate goal on a centering pass off the end line from junior
Colleen Keegan-Twombly that found Donohue just a few feet in front of the net.
The Shorewomen cut Ithaca's lead in half on a corner with 22 minutes left in regulation, but the Bombers responded with the final goal of the game on their own corner with 11:23 on the clock. Senior
Caitlin O'Brien ripped a shot from the left wing off a pass from junior
Lauren Delia.
Washington had another chance to mount a comeback with 9:38 to go as a forward attempted to flip a shot over Lass, but freshman
Maddie Keppel was waiting on the goal line to make the defensive save.
Lass finished the game with seven saves on the afternoon to pick up her second win of the season.
At the end of regulation, Washington finished the game with 21 shots, while Ithaca took six (all on goal). The Shorewomen also took 13 corners, and the Bombers took three.
Ithaca returns to action on Wednesday, September 9 against Cortland at 4 p.m. at Higgins. The #ShedTheRed campaign kicks off next Wednesday in conjunction with the men's soccer game at Carp Wood Field.
