WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Ithaca College field hockey team shutout Washington & Jefferson, 4-0, on the road in both teams Empire 8 Conference openers. With the win, Ithaca is now 3-1 on the season and earned its first victory against Washington & Jefferson since 2006.
Ithaca dominated play throughout all 70 minutes. The Bombers took 19 shots to just five for the Presidents, and held W&J to no shots in the first half. Ithaca was also awarded 12 corners, while W&J took just three.
After a scoreless first half, junior
Colleen Keegan-Twombly put in the game-winner just 4:09 into the second half. Just under 10 minutes later, sophomore
Michaela Donohue took a pass from junior
Cassie Schuttrumpf and put the ball past the Presidents' goalkeeper to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.
Another five minutes would burn off the clock before Keegan-Twombly notched her second goal of the contest and third of the season. Donohue assisted on the score.
Ithaca's offense was capped off with 2:34 left in regulation as Schuttrumpf capitalized off a feed from sophomore
Amanda Schell.
Junior
Katie Lass earned her third win of the season in 70 minutes of action and made two saves.
Ithaca returns home for the first of three consecutive contests at Higgins Stadium on Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. against Rochester. The Bombers will then play St. John Fisher on the 19th and Hartwick on the 23rd.
