Men's Soccer Falls to Stevens in E8 Championship

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as the top-seeded Bombers fell to second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology, 1-0, in the Empire 8 Championship game at Carp Wood Field.  The win marked the ninth consecutive season that Stevens has won the conference championship.

With the loss, Ithaca ends the 2015 campaign with a 7-8-3 overall mark while the Ducks, who earned the conference's automatic bid into the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship, move to 15-3-2 on the season.

Stevens notched what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 24th minute when tournament MVP, Carson Pryor, corralled a long pass from the midfield line before booting it into the back of the net to give the Ducks a 1-0 advantage.

Coming out of intermission, the Bombers were poised to tie the contest, taking three shots in the half's opening minutes, but none would find their mark.

Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the final frame until the tide seemed to change in Ithaca's favor in the 78th minute when a Stevens' misplay afforded the Bombers a corner kick.  Joseph Dobbins booted the ball to the back post where Jordan Filipowich got his head on the ball, but the offering was tip aside by the Ducks' keeper.

The Bombers would have another opportunity to tie the game in the 90th minute when Filipowich was able to head another ball, this time off the crossbar, but Stevens would clear the ball out of the box to preserve the win.

Zach Jacobsen was saddled with the loss for Ithaca despite making seven saves in 90 minutes.  The Frederick, Md. Native closed out his junior season with a 6-8-3 overall mark.

Offensively, Ithaca took 17 shots as a team led by Sean Forward and Nathan Schoen who took four shots apiece.  Brandon Thompson and Filipowich each took three shots while Sam Boylan was credited with two.

Filipowich, Boylan and Forward were each named to the All-Tournament.
