SCRANTON, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team suffered its first setback of the young season on Tuesday, falling to Scranton, 78-67, in a non-conference matchup at the John Long Center.
With the loss, Ithaca evens its season mark at 1-1 while the Royals remain unbeaten at 3-0.
For the second straight game, Ithaca had four players tally double-figures in scoring led by
Marc Chasin's 21 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the floor. The sophomore guard also added 12 boards and seven assists.Â
Peter Ezema recorded his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds while
Joey Flanagan and
Sam Bevan finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
After falling behind by 17 points late in the first half, Ithaca would cut the deficit to 13 heading into halftime after four unanswered points by Bevan including a deep 3-pointer made it 44-31 at the break.
The Bombers would remain in a double-digit hole for much of the second half until a modest 5-0 run brought them to within seven points, 65-58, with 5:31 left to play.
Exema would bring the Bombers to within five points at 3:37 with a lay-up in the paint, but a 10-0 run by the Royals that included five free throws, ended Ithaca's comeback bid as the home team held on for an 11-point win.
The Bombers will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday when they make their home-opener at Ben Light Gymnasium against Bridgewater State in the annual Cortaca Classic.
