Ithaca Shuts Out Cortland, 1-0

Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team used a strong defensive effort to defeat Cortland Sunday, dropping the Red Dragons by a score of 1-0 at Jets Field. The win improves Ithaca's record to 4-1-0 on the season.

Sophomore Jess Demczar scored for Ithaca, while junior goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia stopped the only shot she faced for her fourth shutout of the 2014 campaign.

Ithaca generated 18 total shots, eight of which were on goal. The Bombers held Cortland to six total shots, with only one going on net. The Bombers also dominated in corner kicks, earning nine to Cortland's two.

After a scoreless opening frame, Ithaca broke the scoring drought with a goal in the 81st minute. Demczar netted her second of the season, converting a direct free kick from 25-yards out for the 1-0 advantage. Cortland was unable to solve Coppolecchia and the rest of the Bomber defense in the remaining 10 minutes of play, giving Ithaca the 1-0 victory.

The Bombers return to Carp Wood Field for their next contest, an Empire 8 battle with Alfred on Sept. 20. The match is set to start at 3 p.m.
