Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Ithaca College volleyball team fell in the Empire 8 Conference tournament semifinals with a 3-0 loss to Nazareth College on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology Friday night, Nov. 7. The Golden Flyers claimed the match, 25-22, 25-15, 25-13.
Ithaca has a 23-11 overall record, while No. 2 Nazareth improves to 26-9. Ithaca has declared eligibility for postseason play in the ECAC tournament and will find out about a possible bid this week.
Ithaca led Nazareth, 20-15, in the first set, but the Golden Flyers responded to knot the set up at 21-21 and forced Ithaca to call a timeout. Out of the break, Nazareth went on a 4-1 run to close out with a 25-22 victory.
Senior
Rylie Bean paced Ithaca in the first set with five kills and a .455 hitting percentage, while freshman
Kayla Gromen handed out 11 assists. Sophomore
Breanne Tuohy added three kills in five attempts and fellow sophomore
Myan Idziur recorded seven digs in the opening set.
Bean was named to the all-tournament team on Nov. 11.
Nazareth took a 2-0 advantage in the match after a 25-15 win in the second set and outhit the Bombers, .385 to. 036.
Bean added three more kills to her evening, while Gromen dished out seven assists. Idzuir and sophomore
Maggie Mutschler each picked up three digs in set two.
The Golden Flyers completed the sweep with a 25-13 triumph in the third set and never trailed, or were tied with Ithaca in the game.
Ithaca improved its hitting percentage to .207 in the set, but Nazareth answered with its best offensive output of the match at .406.
On the evening, Bean led Ithaca with 10 kills to go along with four blocks. Gromen finished the match with 24 assists and five digs, while Idzuir had 12 digs.
Mutschler added eight digs and freshman
Joelle Goldstein notched six kills.
Nazareth posted 11 services in the match, while the Bombers tallied just one. The Golden Flyers also hit .356 overall and Ithaca swung at just a .176 clip.
