Bombers Shut Out By William Smith, 1-0, In First Loss Of Season

GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 5 Ithaca College women's soccer team (4-1) lost its first game of the season Sunday afternoon, falling by a score of 1-0 to No. 9 William Smith (4-1) in the final game of the Upstate Collegiate Cup Tournament. Senior Ellyn Grant-Keane led the Bombers with two shots on goal.

Sophomore Beth Coppolecchia made a career-high seven saves on eight shots in the loss. William Smith outshot Ithaca by an 8-4 margin.

The Herons scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute, sneaking a shot past Coppolecchia on a shot from the right post. The Bombers registered two quality scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to convert in the final 45 minutes of play.

Ithaca is back in action on Sept. 21 in a road contest against Hartwick. The match is set to start at 12 p.m.
