Bombers Remain Perfect in Empire 8 Play, Defeat St. John Fisher 15-9

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The 13th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (6-4, 3-0 Empire 8) won its second Empire 8 game in as many days with a 15-9 victory at St. John Fisher (8-3, 2-1 Empire 8) Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium.

The Bombers powered to an 11-3 lead in the first half that propelled them to victory. The Cardinals outscored Ithaca 6-4 in the second.

Freshman Allison Runyon posed a career- and game-high five goals. Senior Kim Armbruster chipped in a hat trick, while junior Becky Guzzo and freshman Riley Marion added two apiece. Seniors Tracy Rivas and Michelle Avery and sophomore Niki Standera each had one score. Runyon and Marion were each 2-for-2 in free position shots.

Rivas and Guzzo dished out two assists each with Rivas improving to third all-time at Ithaca with 215 points, fourth with 155 goals and seventh with 60 assists.

Seniors Nikki Dahl and Kaitlyn Hoffay had one assist each. Dahl won six draw controls to lead the Bombers. Armbruster had a trio of ground balls and junior Jenna Marchinetti forced a pair of turnovers. Senior Jess Worthman claimed the win in goal having made 11 saves.

The Cardinals netted the game's first before Rivas assisted Runyon and Guzzo for a 2-1 Ithaca lead at 24:29. Fisher answered with two straight for a 3-2 edge, but the Bombers dominated the final 17 minutes of play. Ithaca scored nine unanswered to lead 11-3 at intermission.

Fisher tallied first in the second half as well, but Armbruster and Runyon scored back-to-back for a nine-goal lead, 13-4, at 26:38. The host squad recorded four consecutive, but Ithaca answered with two of the last three goals for a 15-9 final.

St. John Fisher outshot Ithaca, 24-21, and held a 17-12 gap in ground balls. Ithaca won 15 draws to Fisher's 10.

The Bombers return to the turf on Saturday, April 13 at Utica for a 3 p.m. game.
