ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 13th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-0 Empire 8) scored nine first-half goals en route to defeating host Nazareth (4-5, 1-1 Empire 8), 11-9, Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Tracy Rivas, who scored seven goals for the Bombers on Tuesday, netted five to lead Ithaca to victory. Senior
Kaitlyn Hoffay and freshman Allison Runyon each scored twice and seniors
Kim Armbruster and
Nikki Dahl had one apiece. Dahl and junior
Becky Guzzo each dished out an assist.
Dahl had a career-best seven draws and joined senior
Michelle Avery in scooping up game-bests of three ground balls. The pair also caused two turnovers each. Senior
Jess Worthman made eight saves to earn the win in goal.
The Golden Flyers netted the game's first, but Rivas answered with a trio of her own in a five-minute span to put the Bombers ahead indefinitely. Nazareth scored its second at the 20-minute mark, but Hoffay and Runyon combined to score three straight for a 6-2 edge at 11:35. Nazareth made it a 6-4 game, but Rivas and Armbruster found the back of the net with free position shots and Dahl went unassisted for a 9-4 margin at the half.
Nazareth dominated the second stint, outscoring Ithaca, 5-2. The host team pulled within 10-8 at 16:07. Runyon scored at 13:16 to increase the gap to three. The Golden Flyers tallied once more to finalize all scoring at 11-9.
Ithaca led the shot count, 30-23, and collected 11 ground balls to Nazareth's eight. The Golden Flyers won 12 draws to Ithaca's eight.
The Bombers return to action on Sunday, April 7 at St. John Fisher with a 1 p.m. start.
