Bomber Softball Routs Houghton 11-0 In Back-to-Back Games Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College softball team swept a doubleheader against Houghton on Saturday afternoon at Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers won both games by scores of 11-0, and each game was shortened to five innings due to scoring margin. These games were originally scheduled to be played at Houghton and as a result, the Highlanders served as the home team and batted in the bottom of the inning in each game. Ithaca returns to action Sunday at home against Buffalo State in a doubleheader beginning at noon.

In the first game, Ithaca seized control with six runs in the top of the first inning. It appeared that the Highlanders retired the Bombers without allowing any runs after a double play, but the Houghton pitcher was wearing a uniform number that didn't match the number indicated on the lineup card and the double-play pitch was vacated. Given another chance, the Bombers pushed across six runs and never looked back.

Jennifer Biondi was 3-for-3 in the game with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Julianne Vincent was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and scored three times. Carianne D'Alessandro had two hits.

Sam Bender pitched the complete-game victory to improve to 6-2 on the year. She allowed four hits over five innings and didn't walk a batter. She had one strikeout.

Ithaca had nine hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Alison Macari went three innings and allowed two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Laura Quicker pitched the final two innings in relief with two strikeouts, two walks and allowed just one hit.
