Bombers Perfect in E8 Play for Second Straight Year, Roll Past Hartwick 22-4

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 13th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (11-5, 7-0 Empire 8) blanked visiting Hartwick (4-11, 1-6 Empire 8) 22-4 Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers conclude Empire 8 regular-season play with a flawless 7-0 record for the second straight season. Ithaca will host the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5.

The teams exchanged goals to open the game, but Ithaca netted the next seven for an 8-1 lead at 4:42. Hartwick scored a second and Ithaca closed the half with a pair for a 10-2 gap at intermission. The Bombers outscored the Hawks, 9-1, during the first 18 minutes of the second stint, before finalizing all scoring, 22-4.

The Bombers have outscored their last five opponents, 87-29.

On senior day, Ithaca's six senior field players combined to score 12 of the Bombers' 22 goals, while senior Jess Worthman recorded the win in goal having made one stop in the first 30 minutes of play. Tracy Rivas, Sam Whitney and Michelle Avery scored hat tricks and Kim Armbruster, Kaitlyn Hoffay and Nikki Dahl each tallied once. Rivas had a game-high seven ground balls and Avery had a Bomber-best four draw controls.

Accounting for the Bombers' other 10 scores were sophomore Molly Fischer and freshman Taylor Purvis with two goals each. Sophomores Delaney Gilson, Niki Standera and Emily Peters and freshmen Allison Runyon, Ally Lates and Riley Marion all added one.

Eight Bombers handed out one assist each and nine recorded one caused turnover apiece.

Junior Brittany Romano did not make a save during the final 30.

Ithaca outshot Hartwick, 40-6, led the ground ball count 26-12 and held a 17-11 gap in draw controls.
