Second-Half Effort Lifts Bomber Women's Lacrosse Team To Win

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 17th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team dominated the second half and defeated Geneseo 11-8 on Friday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers improved to 2-0 on the year and handed the Knights (2-1) their first loss of the year. Ithaca closed the game with a 6-2 scoring run to secure the victory.

Senior attack Tracy Rivas led the Bombers with two goals and two assists in the game. Classmates Kim Armbruster and Nikki Dahl also scored two goals each.

The Bombers built a 5-2 lead in the first half but Geneseo scored three goals in a span of a minute to tie the score 5-5 at halftime. The Knights scored again two minutes into the second half to take their only lead of the game at 6-5, but Ithaca closed the game with the decisive run over the final 22 minutes. The Bombers held a 7-3 advantage in draw controls and a 12-7 advantage in shots in the second half. Four of Ithaca's goals came from free-position shots.

Senior midfielder Michelle Avery, senior midfielder Kaitlyn Hoffay, sophomore midfielder Natalie Lang, freshman attack Allison Runyon and senior attack Sam Whitney scored one goal each. Junior attack Becky Guzzo had two assists. Armbruster and Dahl each had one assist.

Bomber senior goalkeeper Jess Worthman earned her second victory of the season with five saves.

Ithaca will head south for a spring training trip in Clermont, Fla. where the Bombers will face Gettysburg on Wednesday and Franklin & Marshall on Thursday.
