Women's Basketball Secures Top Seed in E8 Tournament with Victory at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team (20-2, 11-1 Empire 8) defeated host Stevens Institute of Technology (12-11, 6-6 Empire 8), 55-48, on Saturday afternoon to secure the top seed in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament. The win solidified Ithaca its fourth consecutive 20-win season.

After trailing 25-24 in the first frame, Ithaca outscored the Ducks 31-23 in the latter half. The Bombers held the advantage most of the second, with the Ducks owning the edge for less than a minute.

Three Bombers tallied double-digit points with junior Kathryn Campbell leading the game with 12 points. Classmate Mary Kate Tierney tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double. Sophomore Geena Brady also added 10 points and seven rebounds. Campbell led the Blue & Gold with four assists.

The first frame featured six lead changes. The Ducks scored the first bucket of the game and held the advantage until the 10-minute mark. A Campbell three-pointer gave Ithaca its first lead at 9:19. The window bounced back-and-forth over the final nine minutes, with Ithaca holding the largest margin with a 22-19 gap at 7:20. The final three minutes of play were scoreless with the Ducks holding a 25-24 edge at intermission.

The Bombers opened the second half with nine unanswered for a 33-25 advantage four minutes in. The Ducks answered to take a 39-37 lead at 10:39. The game was knotted for the third time at 9:18. Ithaca used six straight to take an indefinite lead at 6:26. The Bombers pulled away late to cruise to victory, 55-48.

Ithaca shot 44.7 percent from the floor, while the Ducks hit 33.9 percent of their attempts. Both teams had 14 steals, four Bombers had three apiece. Ithaca held a 36-30 edge in rebounds. There was a combined 48 turnovers in the game.

The Bombers return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 12 hosting the Houghton Highlanders.
