Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca field hockey team (3-0) scored a goal in each half and picked up a 2-0 victory over visiting Oswego (0-3) Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers have now outscored their opponents 16-3 over their first three contests and the 3-0 start is the best for the Ithaca field hockey team since the 1997 season.
Ithaca opened the scoring in the 28th minute on senior forward
Lindsay Flanagan's first goal of the season. Senior foward
Julia Conroy carried the ball in the circle and put a shot on goal that was saved by the Oswego goalkeeper, but Flanagan picked up the rebound and scored from close range at the right post to put the Bombers in front.
In the second half, Ithaca worked well on the attack and junior midfielder
Emily Lash sent a hard pass from the right edge of the circle to the front of the cage, where
Conroy scored on a quick shot from approximately five yards out. It was the fifth goal of the season for
Conroy, the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week, and she has tallied at least one goal in all three of Ithaca's games so far this season.
Bomber senior goalkeeper
Kelly Singleton made 11 saves and earned the shutout in net. It was her first shutout of the season and the second of her career, and she has been the goalkeeper of record in all three of Ithaca's wins.
Ithaca held a 21-18 advantage in shots in the game, and both teams earned 10 penalty corners.
The Bombers continue non-conference play and conclude a four-game homestand to start the season Saturday at noon when Wellesley visits Higgins Stadium.
