Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's soccer team (7-0-0), ranked eighth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and ninth by D3soccer.com, remained unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 win over visiting Cortland (3-2-2) Tuesday at Carp Wood Field.
Ithaca outshot the Red Dragons 16-8 and scored the game's only goal late in the first half. Junior
Ellyn Grant-Keane sent a long pass from the right sideline to sophomore
Amanda Callanan, who put a shot to the left of Cortland's goalkeeper for the third goal of the season. The assist was
Grant-Keane's second of the year and the 16th of her career; she's two away from a spot in the program's all-time top 10.
Senior
Becca Salant made three saves to record her third solo shutout and fifth overall. Her efforts were helped by a tenacious Bomber defense -- highlighted by senior
Megan Palladino -- that allowed only one shot on goal in the second half.
Callanan's goal put Ithaca on the scoreboard after the Bombers had nearly scored three other goals. Senior
Rachael Palladino hit the crossbar in the third minute and 25 minutes later junior
Anna Gray hit the crossbar on a direct kick. In between, a shot by senior
Julie Winn was saved by Cortland's keeper at the near post; when the rebound bounced to the front of the goal,
Rachael Palladino's point blank shot was saved by a Red Dragon defender on the line.
Ithaca remains one of 17 unbeaten and untied teams. The Bombers improved their all-time record to 17-9-10 over Cortland. They've lost just once to the Red Dragons in the last 14 meetings (going 10-1-3 in that span).
The Bombers, who recorded their third straight shutout, return to Empire 8 play Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Houghton.
