Bombers Cap Regular Season With Two More Wins

Keuka Park, N.Y. -- The Ithaca softball team (27-11) capped its regular season with two wins at Keuka () Wednesday afternoon. The Bombers return to action Friday at Kostrinsky Field, as Ithaca hosts the 2012 Empire 8 Softball Championships, a four-team double-elimination tournament in which the champion will earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament. Ithaca has won 20 of its last 21 games.

Sophomore pitchers Sam Bender and Jillian Olmstead combined to hold Keuka to just one hit over seven innings and permitted three base runners in the entire game.

The Bombers took the lead with two runs in the first on three consecutive hits to start the game. After back-to-back singles, junior designated player Jennifer Biondi doubled to left field to bring in two runs. After the Storm answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Bombers tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth to seal the victory. Sophomore outfielder Rachel Dell'Orto, freshman shortstop Francesca Busa, and Biondi had two hits each.

Ithaca scored at least once in each of the first four innings and went on to a win in a game shortened due to five innings due to an eight-run margin rule. The Bombers plated five runs in the first, one in the second, six in the third and two more in the fourth. Eight different players had at least one hit, and four Bombers had multi-hit games. All 14 Ithaca hits were singles, and the Bombers drew 10 bases on balls in the game.

Junior designated player Jennifer Biondi was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore first baseman Sydney Folk was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Freshman shortstop Francesca Busa and sophomore second baseman Julianne Vincent had two hits each.

Three Bombers shared the pitching duties as Bender (3 innings), Olmstead (1) and freshman Eve Brown (1) all got work in the circle. They combined to allow five hits and didn't walk any Keuka batters.
