Bombers Atop Empire 8; Defeat Hartwick, 23-7

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (7-3, 4-0 Empire 8) defeated host Hartwick (5-6, 1-3 Empire 8) 23-7 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers, who are receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll, jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Hartwick pulled within 6-3, before Ithaca powered to a 10-4 lead at the break. Ithaca netted 11 of the first 12 goals of the second. The Hawks put two in the back of the net making it a 21-7 contest, but the Bombers tallied the final two of the game to improve to 4-0 in the conference and claim its fourth consecutive victory.

Junior Tracy Rivas scored a game-high five goals and added an assist. Juniors Michelle Avery, Kaitlyn Hoffay and Sam Whitney recorded career-highs. Avery netted four goals and Hoffay and Whitney three. Seniors Nicole Borisenok and Racquel Lividini each scored twice. Lividini also dished out a career-high four assists.

Junior Nikki Dahl won four draw controls for the Bombers. Rivas scooped up three ground balls and Avery forced a pair of turnovers.

Junior Jess Worthman made two saves in 47:42 for the win, before sophomore Brittany Romano relieved her. She made one save in the final 12:18 of the game.

Rivas, Hoffay and Avery combined to lead Ithaca to a 5-0 open. The Hawks answered with two in a span of 34 seconds before freshman Molly Fischer scored on a Lividini assist. Hartwick made it a 6-3 game at 15:12. Hoffay responded with back-to-back goals and Rivas added another at 8:39. The Hawks netted their fourth at the four-minute mark before Avery scored on a free position shot to close out the half with a 10-4 Ithaca margin.

Borisenok went unassisted to spark five consecutive Ithaca goals in the second. The Hawks managed a goal at 19:46, but Ithaca went on to net six more for a 21-5 lead at 8:58. Hartwick posted two straight scores before Whitney tallied twice within 37 seconds to finalize all scoring, 23-7.

The Bombers will next host William Smith, Tuesday, April 17 at 5 p.m.
