Women's Basketball Team Defeats St. Lawrence in Thrilling Fashion, 65-64

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team (4-0) rewrote a seven-point deficit in the final two minutes of action to defeat host St. Lawrence (1-3), 65-64, on Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium.

Junior Kathryn Campbell tallied 22 points and was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to lead all scorers. Classmate Mary Kate Tierney pulled down a career- and game-high 13 boards for the Blue & Gold. Junior Jenn Escobido put up 10 points and senior Devin Shea and junior Elisabeth Wentlent each scored eight. Wentlent and Campbell grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

The first frame, which was knotted on three occasions, featured six lead changes. The Bombers posted a 14-10 lead seven minutes into action on a Wentlent jumper, but the Saints answered with a 13-0 run, claiming the advantage for the remainder of the half. St. Lawrence led by as many as 12 at the seven-minute mark. Ithaca pulled within five with seven unanswered, holding the Saints scoreless over a six minute span. The squads exchanged buckets in the final minute of play as the host team held a 30-25 edge at intermission.

The Saints led by nine, 36-27, at 16:59, but the Bombers pulled within one at 14:51. Ithaca's 8-0 streak was highlighted by a trio of Campbell baskets. Ithaca snuck within one four more times and went on to secure the lead at 11:38, 42-41. The Bombers posted a six-point gap before the Saints used14-2 run good for a 57-51 advantage at 5:30. Ithaca rewrote a seven-point deficit with back-to-back Campbell threes and a pair of Shea free throws, with four seconds lingering on the clock, to secure the win. A Saints jumper at the buzzer was off point.

Ithaca outrebounded the Saints, 44-38, though St. Lawrence hit 37.9 percent of its shots to the Bombers' 36.8 percent.

The Bombers return to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 4 in their home and Empire 8 opener against Elmira at 6 p.m. in Ben Light Gymnasium.
