Second Half Surge Lifts #6/5 Bombers over Nazareth; Remain Perfect on the Season

Box Score

ITHACA, N.Y. – The #6/5 Ithaca College women's soccer team (12-0-0, 5-0-0 Empire 8) scored three times in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over visiting Nazareth (6-4-3, 2-2-1 Empire 8) Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. The win improves Ithaca's school-record setting start. The Bombers have won their opening 12 games for the first time since the program's 1981 inception.

After a scoreless first half the Bombers opened scoring 11 minutes into the second when junior Ellyn Grant-Keane collected a pass from senior Rachael Palladino who fired a shot over the Nazareth goal keeper, off the crossbar, and into the back of the net.

The Bombers lead did not last long. Less than two minutes later, in the 59th minute, the Golden Flyers scored to even the action at one goal apiece.

The score remained tied until freshman Kelsey King dribbled into the Nazareth defense and delivered a pass to sophomore Jessie Warren who tallied the game-winner with her second goal of the season. The scoring continued with just 10 minutes lingering when Palladino sliced through the Nazareth defense to net her ninth of the season.

The Bombers outshot the Golden Flyers 16-9 and used a dominant defense to keep the ball out of their defensive third of the field.

Senior goalkeeper Becca Salant made five saves en route to earning her 12th victory of the season.

Ithaca returns to action Sunday, Oct. 7 as it travels to St. John Fisher for a 2:30 p.m. game.
