Bombers Suffer First Setback of 2012, Fall to RIT, 1-0

Box Score

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The #4 Ithaca College women's soccer team (16-1-1) suffered a 1-0 setback to host Rochester Institute of Technology (11-5-1) Saturday afternoon to conclude regular-season play. It was the Bombers' first shutout loss since falling 2-0 to Wheaton (Ill.) in the 2011 NCAA Final Four.

In program history, Ithaca has twice gone undefeated in regular-season play (1989, 1993) and twice recorded just one loss (1984, 2012).

RIT tallied the game's only goal in the 39th minute on a free kick headed into the top right corner of goal.

Senior Becca Salant suffered the loss in cage, making a pair of saves for the Bombers.

The Bombers held a 16-9 edge in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in the second stint, and a 5-2 gap in corner kicks.

Ithaca had its chances. Junior Ellyn Grant-Keane fired a shot on goal with 7:50 to play in the first frame stopped by diving RIT keeper. Junior Alex Liese had an opportunity late in regulation, but her shot connected with the cross bar and continued out of play. With time expiring, junior Jackie Rodabaugh shot from the penalty spot, but a challenging goalie forced the shot to fire high.

The Bombers return to play on Saturday, Nov. 3 against St. John Fisher in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament at Carp Wood Field.
