ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior
Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) and sophomore
Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) combined to score 13 goals to lead the Ithaca women's lacrosse team (4-2, 2-0 Empire 8) past visiting #19 St. John Fisher (5-3, 1-1 Empire 8), 20-14, on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.
Ithaca outdid the Cardinals, 11-3, in the first half, while St. John Fisher held an 11-9 scoring edge in the second frame.
Borisenok recorded a career-best seven goals and
Rivas a career-high six to lead the Bombers to victory. Seniors
Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton) and
Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) each netted a pair of scores for Ithaca, while sophomores
Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.),
Nikki Dahl (The Wellington School/Columbus, Ohio) and
Sam Whitney (Portsmouth/Rye, N.H.) each added one. Five Bombers dished out one assist each.
Ithaca opened with five unanswered, including a hat trick from
Borisenok, before the Cardinals got on the board at 18:22. The Bombers again rattled off a slew of scores for a 9-1 advantage with 7:14 left in the first. The squads notched a pair of goals each to close out the first frame in Ithaca's favor, 11-3.
The Cardinals opened the second stint at 27:24 with a goal, but Ithaca answered with two in a span of 41 seconds for a 13-4 lead. St. John Fisher got on the board at 24:03 before
Hurley,
Rivas and
Dahl each tallied goals.
St. John Fisher recorded four goals to make it a 16-9 game, but Ithaca responded with four of its own for a 20-9 advantage with 11 minutes lingering in the game. The Cardinals scored the final five goals of the game before time expired with a 20-14 Ithaca final.
Junior
Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) led the game with five draw controls and
Rivas added four wins.
Sophomore
Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) improved to 4-2 in goal for the Bombers making 11 stops.
Ithaca will next travel to Utica on Tuesday, April 5 for a 4 p.m. game.
