Ithaca Women’s Lacrosse Powers to 16-4 Trouncing of Elmira

Junior Nicole Borisenok scored her 100th career goal in the Bombers' 16-4 win.
Elmira, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's lacrosse team (8-4, 6-1 Empire 8) powered to its second straight double-digit conference victory with a 16-4 trouncing of Elmira (4-7, 1-5 Empire 8) on Sunday afternoon.

The Bombers netted eight goals in each half en route to winning its third straight Empire 8 game.

Ithaca jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a trio of goals from junior Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) before adding to it for a 4-0 advantage. Elmira first got on the board at 14:35 before the Bombers tallied three consecutive. The Soaring Eagles made it a 7-3 game with back-to-back goals before the Bombers found the back of the net with just two seconds lingering in the half for an 8-3 halftime gap.

Ithaca dominated the second half as they unleashed eight straight scores. Elmira scored with 1:47 remaining in the second frame for a 16-4 final.

Borisenok and sophomore Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) each netted four goals to lead the game, while Borisenok also tallied game-bests of three assists and two caused turnovers. Borisenok tallied her 100th and 101st career goals during the game.

Sophomore Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.), senior Rachel Maley (Newtown/Sandy Hook, Conn.) and freshman Becky Guzzo (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) recorded two goals apiece for the Bombers. Guzzo also joined Borisenok having caused two turnovers.

Junior Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) won a team-high three draws, while she and sophomore Nikki Dahl (The Wellington School/Columbus, Ohio) each picked up a game-high two ground balls.

Sophomore Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) made seven stops in goal for the Bombers to claim the win.

Ithaca outshot Elmira, 27-18 and won 13 draw controls to the Soaring Eagles' eight.

Once assisted by senior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls), Borisenok led the Bombers to an early 3-0 advantage before Rivas went unassisted in making it a 4-0 lead at 16:26. Elmira claimed its first of the game just two minutes later, but Ithaca responded with three of its own.

Rivas scored one of the Bombers' three free position goals before finding the crosse of Armbruster for a 6-1 lead at 11:40. Junior Racquel Lividini (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) then made it a six-goal game with a goal at 7:53. Despite the Soaring Eagles twice finding the back of the next during the next two minutes of play, Ithaca iced the first half with a Maley goal on a Borisenok assist with two seconds left in the first stanza.

Like the first half, Borisenok was first on the board in the second and found Rivas for a goal just 33 seconds later for a 10-3 lead. Armbruster was unassisted at 25:58, Borisenok assisted Maley at 19:45 and Rivas netted one of her own at the 14-minute mark to take a 10 goal, 13-3, lead to force a running game clock. Guzzo twice scored, broken up only by a Kaitlyn Hoffay (Ithaca/Ithaca) score. Elmira netted the game's final goal at 1:47 as the Bombers claimed the 16-4 victory.

The Bombers will next travel to William Smith for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday, April 19.
