ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca women's lacrosse team (3-2, 1-0 Empire 8) opened conference action with a convincing 14-10 victory over visiting Rochester Institute of Technology (1-7, 0-1 Empire 8) on Friday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Sophomore Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) and junior Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) each recorded game-highs of four goals each to lead the Bombers as Ithaca outscored RIT, 7-5, in both halves.

After Ithaca opened scoring with two consecutive, RIT knotted the game for the first and final time at 3-3 at the 17-minute mark of the first half. Ithaca rattled off four unanswered for a 7-3 advantage before RIT closed out the half with two scores in the final minute of action.

The Tigers were first on the board in the second stint, but Ithaca scored six of the next seven goals for a 13-7 advantage with 9:07 lingering in the game. RIT managed a trio of scores, but Rivas netted her final of the day to end the game in Ithaca's favor, 14-10.

Sophomores Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.) and Michelle Avery (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) joined Rivas and Borisenok as multiple-goal scorers with three and two, respectively, while sophomore Nikki Dahl (The Wellington School/Columbus, Ohio) added one.

Dahl led the game with five ground balls and Rivas scooped up four for the Bombers. Armbruster was victorious on six draws leading Ithaca to win 17 of 25.

Sophomore Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) turned away seven shots in goal for the Bombers to tally her third victory of the season.

Rivas twice went unassisted opening all scoring, but the Tigers scored three of the next four, broken up only by Borisenok's first, to tie the game at 3-3. Avery, Rivas and Armbruster each scored before senior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) fed Borisenok for a solid 7-3 advantage with 1:48 left in the first frame. RIT netted two within a 22-second span to bring the game to 7-5 at the break.

The Tigers recorded the first of the second stint, but Dahl answered at 23:06 to make it an 8-6 game. Armbruster backed it for a 9-6 gap off an assist from senior Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton) at 14:24. RIT scored at the 13-minute mark, but Ithaca would score four straight to put the game away.

Junior Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) found Armbruster, Avery went unassisted and Borisenok notched a pair of scores to solidify a 13-7 Ithaca advantage. The Tigers scored a trio of goals to bring the game to 13-10 at 3:29, but Rivas finalized all scoring with 48 seconds left in the game.

Ithaca outshot RIT, 39-25 and scooped up 26 ground balls to the Tigers' 19.

The Bombers will next face St. John Fisher on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m.
