ITHACA, N.Y – The 34th-ranked Bombers set a school record with their 15th straight win, a 74-38 victory over Elmira (4-18, 2-11 E8) Sunday afternoon. The Bombers (20-4, 15-0 E8) also tied the Empire 8 record for conference wins in a season, as well as the longest Empire 8 winning streak with 17 games dating back to last season.
Ithaca notched its 13th straight win over the Soaring Eagles at Ben Light Gymnasium, where they have posted a 10-2 record this season.
Seniors Lindsay Brown (Immaculate/Danbury, Conn.) and Katherine Bixby (Germantown Friends/Philadelphia, Pa.) reached double figures in scoring in their final regular-season home game. Bixby scored nine of the team's first 13 points – all on 3-point field goals – to move into 5th on the program's all-time scoring list. She finished with 13 for the game which gives her 1, 259 career points for Ithaca. Brown netted a game-high 16 points on the strength of a 13-point second-half performance. She connected on 6-of-9 field goal attempts, including four 3-pointers and collected a team-best six rebounds.
A 3-pointer by Brown with 14:30 left to play sparked a 14-0 that lasted five minutes to give the Bombers a 65-30 advantage. Junior forward Jordan Confessore (South Brunswick/Kendall Park, N.J.) opened the second half with a layup to start a quick 8-0 spurt that lasted until 17:25 remained in the contest.
Freshman forward Devin Shea (St. Basil Academy/Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) posted a career-high nine points off the bench and converted all three field-goal attempts to go along with a matching 3-3 mark from the foul line. Sophomore guard Jessica Farley (Pine Valley Central/South Dayton) added 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. She also tallied four of Ithaca's 16 steals in the game.
Ithaca's defense stymied Elmira's offensive production, holding the Soaring Eagles to 1-of-18 shooting from three-point range. Elmira failed to reach 40 points in the game, the third time this season Ithaca has held an opponent under 40 points as they improve to 51-0 when they hold opponents to under 50 points.
The Bombers conclude regular-season play with a 6 p.m. road contest against Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday.
