ITHACA, N.Y. -- The women's soccer team (11-3-1), ranked ninth in the coaches' poll and 19th by D3soccer.com, lost 1-0 to visiting Oneonta (12-5-1) Tuesday.
The Bombers outshot the Red Dragons 16-5 and hd numerous opportunities to score. Sophomore
Rachael Palladino (Lansing/Lansing), who entered play one goal shy of Ithaca's single-season record, was robbed on a pair of stellar saves by Oneonta's goalkeeper in the final minutes. In the 83rd minute, she beat four defenders to the front of the net and was stopped on a hard point-blank shot that the keeper pushed over the crossbar. Three minutes later, freshman Ericka Ilkanich
(Chagrin Falls/Chagrin Falls, Ohio) headed a pass backwards to Palladino, who took a left-footed shot that was kept out by a diving save.
Senior
Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough, Mass.) made a pair of saves to keep Ithaca within a goal after Oneonta tallied a goal just under 10 minutes in. The goal snapped
Platt's career-best shutout streak of 408:13.
Ithaca wraps up the regular season Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Rensselaer.
