Freshmen Lead Way for Women's Swimming & Diving

Sarah Winder won two events

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team (11-1) placed first in 12 of 13 events in a 179-56 win over Alfred Saturday at the Hill Center Pool. Junior Sarah Winder (Garfield/Seattle, Wash.) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.54) and 500-yard freestyle (5:29.74). Junior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) met the NCAA B Qualifying Standard in winning the 100 free in 52.50 seconds and set a Hill Center Pool record.

The Bombers won the meet's opening relay as the team of sophomore Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott), freshman Christina Kranz (Madison West/Madison, Wis.), freshman Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) and freshman Lexi Brawer (Brookline/Brookline, Mass.) won in 1:55.64.

Senior Shannon Archer (Niskayuna/Scotia) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:06.31. Sophomore Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico) placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.28.

Senior Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) placed first in 1-meter diving with a score of 233.40 points and the 3-meter event with 237.20 points.

Freshman Laura Goodwell (John Muir/Altadena, Calif.) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.30 and freshman Liz Clements (Hanover Area/Hanover Township, Pa.) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.50. Carly Jones won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.15.

Ithaca closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:42.09 with the winning team of Sheila Rhoades, junior Michelle Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden), junior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Brawer.

The Bombers host their final home meet of the season Saturday against Union.
