#5 Herons Escape With 1-0 Win Over #7 Bombers

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Visiting William Smith (7-2-0), ranked fifth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and seventh by D3soccer.com, scored the game's only goal with 1:39 left in the second overtime to defeat the Bombers (7-2-0), who are ranked seventh by the NSCAA and 14th by D3soccer.com.

The Herons converted a corner kick in the game's 108th minute, snapping Ithaca's six-match winning streak.

Ithaca had dominated play throughout regulation, outshooting William Smith (who entered the game allowing an average of eight shots per game) 24-8 with an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal through 90 minutes.

Junior Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) stopped a pair of William Smith shots.

The Bombers return to Empire 8 action next Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match at St. John Fisher.
